I got offered a job I didn’t apply for
Hey friends 💕 Let’s get real today.
Do you know your worth ? I didn’t when I first entered into healthcare and honestly I’ve taken some jobs just to get the experience.
It took me having two jobs. One as an ICU/PCU nurse during COVID, the other as a nasal swab tester at banks around the city.
I’d like to add my work as an ICU/PCU nurse was more taxing and challenging, but I got paid 2x more SWABBING NOSES AT A CLINIC.
Sorry y’all I literally just thought about how much I was getting paid.
Anywho. I got to the bank one day and I was crying my eyes out because I was tired and I felt like I was undervalued.
One of my coworkers looked at me and said, La’Keisha always remember if you died today your job would be on LinkedIn tomorrow” then it clicked for me.
It was time to leave. It was time to put myself first. It was time to stand up for myself.
So as any risk averse person who is afraid to not have “stability” would do. I did an internal transfer.
Now this is my origin story of letting go
If you follow me you know I got a job as a Director of Nursing, and within 3 weeks I left it.
For the next few weeks I was a contracted nurse/phlebotomist .
This was the first time that I didn’t work inside the walls of the hospital or a facility. It gave me a sense of freedom.
Then DING, I got a hit on LinkedIn. I mean I’ve had recruiters reach out before, but I always thought they were bots.
This was a headhunter looking for someone to fill an administrators position. I’d been apply for jobs like crazy, but I didn’t apply for this one.
He said, I see your resume and your experience, we’re looking for someone with your clinical background would you be interested.
I’m like I guess so. This is technically the next step on my journey so why not. Especially with me being in school to get my Doctorate in Nursing practice with a concentration in Nursing leadership and organizational sciences.
So I heard them out negotiated my pay and accepted the job.
Now that I’m in the role I should’ve negotiated a little bit more, but honestly I was baffled that I got offered a job on LinkedIn that I didn’t even APPLY FOR.
How did I do it ???
Actually it was a school assignment in my DNP program. We had to start building/creating our personal brands.
We had to rebuild or create a LinkedIn profile and submit the finished product.
This is why I have 2 LinkedIn specialist coming to The Evolved Nurse Summit to help give you tips !
Brittani Johnson and Leslie Pittman will be your guide to taping into your worth by utilizing LinkedIn.
The craziest thing is…. I had already selected this to be a part of the conference before receiving an offer.
I’d like to add that Leslie will also be our yoga instructor on day 3 💕
