It's In you
Here's a reminder that it's in you, and it's on you.
Whatever your dreams or desires are, go for it. Sometimes, nobody is stopping you but you.
Maybe it's the fear of rejection, the fear of failure, or even the fear of success creeping into the periphery of your dreams. Remember that you own your own life. Even when people attempt to tell you that you don't
The Cemetery is full of untapped potential -Les Brown
Let's talk about what stopped me. The fear of success and the lack of time management. When I graduated from school, I planned to work for a few years and go back to school to open up my practice. That didn't happen.
COVID did.
After being thrown into the pandemic, PTSD clouded my mind, and eventually my dreams became distant.
VERY distant.
Then something happened... my dad passed away.
I remember him talking about all of his dreams, aspirations, and the businesses that he wanted to start. Most of them weren't started because he struggled with substance abuse. His disease took portions of his life that were bright and full.
But it taught me so many lessons that I truly appreciate. One is that people are not their addiction; they are people... but that's for another blog.
When he passed away a month before that, he was going to enroll in school to become a drug counselor. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
When he passed away, that Les Brown quote echoed in my head...
I don't know if it was the Les Brown quote, the passing of my dad, the avoidance of grieving, or a combination of all three that led me to apply for my doctorate.
BUT I DID.
The first school that I applied to DECLINED ME.
I didn't give up; I applied to more schools with my 2.98 GPA.
I had a certain level of delusion that was unmatched.
I knew that I was getting into somebody's school.
What did Denzel say, "I'm Leaving Here With Something"
So I got into school to get my Doctorate in Nursing Practice, and then I was offered a spot at my dream school a week into my current program.
See, I had to remind myself during all of that that it was in me.
And it's in you too.
You just have to find it.
It won't always be easy, and sometimes you'll doubt yourself.
Keep going.
Give back to yourself.
