Sisterhood đź’•
This weekend I had the honor of graduating from The Legacy League. This organization put me in rooms that I’d never thought I’d be in and sparked a change in me that I hadn’t seen.
But it wasn’t about being in the rooms. It was about building relationships, understanding my value, and seeing myself for who I am beyond the limitations of my mind.
Before entering legacy league, I didn’t know what it looked like to celebrate myself. Every accomplishment was simply something that happened and I’d quickly move on, my sisters, Mrs.Pat, our community of champions told me that every accomplishment should be celebrated OUT LOUD.
I went from being an OR circulator to a surgery center administrator in 10 months. 10 !!! Every person in my corner pushed me to see my worth.
To see so many powerful black women, LEADING in their industries, being change makers, being disrupters, being sure of themselves and their capabilities, showed me that I’ve been quietly doing this all along. However the thing about being quite is you slowly start to mute all the beauty in your world by thinking “who cares that I graduated from x” or “getting a doctorate is just another degree.”
It’s not. Do you know you’re really out here DOING THE WORK !
Showing up.
We had a session where we talked about our sisters who inspired us, held us accountable, who we’d call, who challenged us.
Person by person, I heard my name, my sisters telling me how me showing up and remembering their goals meant something. How me asking how they’re doing meant something, because as black women a lot of times no one simply asks, “how are you”.
HAND ME A TISSUE PLEASE.
“Listen to the whispers” -Mrs. Rosemary Winbush
In our ecumenical, which is basically church that unites various denominations a word was given, one that my sisters and I don’t take for granted. “Listen to the whispers”
Listening to the whispers ,or as my daddy used to say that still small voice, tells you your worth, it shows exactly what you need to do, it tells you to move out of your way or move people out of your way. So many times I heard step by step the process to take, but the noise would often drown it out.
God it’s talking if
we are listening.
What Mrs. Pat has created is beautiful in every way and I am so appreciative of this opportunity that was given to me.
I’m waiting for all the pictures but until I get the million of them I’ll share a few with you 💕
